When you log in to Siveillance Control, is necessary to select a workstation. Generally, a workstation is defined by default, but you can also create new workstations. You set up several displays of Siveillance Control, for example a dual monitor display for runtime mode. If more operators work simultaneously with the runtime client, you have to define a workstation for each operator.

Creating Workstations

  • The Administration perspective is displayed.
  1. You have the following options:
  • For the runtime mode, right-click System > Workstations.
  • For the engineering mode, right-click System Engineering > Workstations.
  1. Select Create Workstation.
  1. Enter a name.
  1. In the External ID field, enter a unique name to be able to clearly select one workstation.
  1. In the Number of Screens field, you have the following options:
  • 1 - One screen displaying system messages
  • 2 - Two screens displaying system messages and a working window
  • 3 – Three screens displaying system messages, a working and video window
  1. Click Finish.
  • A new workstation node is created with two subnodes. One subnode contains all information regarding the screen display and the other subnode is needed for audio playback on a workstation.

Editing Workstations

You can edit workstation properties.

  • The Administration perspective is displayed.
  1. In the Administration tree, select Workstations > [Workstation].
  1. In the Object Properties view, enter your changes.
  1. To apply the changes, restart the client.
  1. To apply changes done in engineering mode for a runtime workstation, activate them on the runtime client.

Configuring a Screen Layout

You can configure the number of screens by selecting the type of screen layout you want to have.

  • The Administration perspective is displayed.
  1. In the Administration tree, right-click System > Workstations > [Workstation] and select Configure Screen Layout.
  1. In the Number of Screens field, you have the following options:

  • A workstation has been created.
  • The number of screens has been defined.
  1. In the Administration tree, right-click Workstations > [Workstation] > [Screen] > [Window] > [Display window] and select Edit window properties. Alternatively, you can double-click the display window.
  1. You can edit the following properties:
  • Window Type: The window type is determined automatically.
  • Perspective: Select a perspective. The available options depend on the window type.
  • Position X: The position of the upper left corner of the window on the x axis (from left to right) in pixels.
  • Position Y: The position of the upper left corner of the window on the y axis (from top to bottom) in pixels.
  • Width: Enter the width of the window in pixels, taking into account the screen resolution.
  • Height: Enter the height of the window in pixels, taking into account the screen resolution.
  • Show maximized: To use full-screen display, keep the default settings. Otherwise, unmark the check box. The width and height entered for the window are taken into account.

  1. Click Finish.
  1. To apply the changes, restart the client.
  1. To apply changes done in engineering mode for a runtime workstation, activate them on the runtime client.

Validating Display Window Configurations

You can check the existing configuration of display windows before performing activation and applying the changes to the runtime client.

  1. Make sure that you have only defined perspectives which are available for the corresponding system mode.
  1. Make sure that you have defined different values in the Window Type and Perspective parameters for all display windows of a workstation.

The following data inconsistencies can lead to the tasks and have to be resolved in the Tasks view:

  • Display windows with no initial perspective defined.
  • Display windows with no value defined in the Perspective parameter.
  • Non-compliance with the rules on creating and editing display windows.

For more information on how to resolve data inconsistencies, refer to: Validating Data.

Configuring the Hostname or IP Address of Workstations

The user can log on to the engineering or runtime client using only the workstation configured with the hostname or IP address of the machine they are currently logged in. Workstations configured for other hostnames or IP addresses will not be available for selection.

  • The Administration perspective is displayed.
  1. You have the following options:
  • For the engineering client, select System Engineering > Workstations > [Workstation].
  • For the runtime client, select System > Workstations > [Workstation].
  1. In the Host field, enter the hostname or IP address of the machine that you want to log on with.
  1. Apply the changes done in the engineering mode for a runtime workstation by performing the activation on the runtime client.
  1. Modify the hosts file:
  • Add the hostname to the hosts file of the engineering server to see the newly added workstation in the launch page.
  • Add the hostname to the hosts file of the runtime server to see the newly added workstation in the launch page.
  1. To apply the changes, restart the client.
  • The newly added workstation is displayed in the launch page of the engineering or runtime client.

Deleting Workstations
