You can add, edit and delete printers on each CUPS printer server. Also, default printers can be managed on the Workstations node. You can assign a default printer for all workstations or a separate default printer for each workstation. This is done separately for the runtime and engineering mode.

Adding Printers

Use these functions only in exceptional cases.
Use the Synchronize with CUPS Printer Server function in order to transmit all printers configured on the CUPS server to Siveillance Control.

  • The Print Configuration perspective is displayed.
  1. In the Workstation & Printers tree, right-click a CUPS printer server and select Create CUPS Printer.
  1. You can make the following settings:
  • Name: Enter a unique name.
  • CUPS Printer Name: Enter a printer name identical to the one used on the CUPS server.
  • Comment: Enter a comment if necessary.
  1. Click Finish.

Editing Printer Configurations

  • The Print Configuration perspective is displayed.
  1. In the Workstation & Printers tree, select a printer under the CUPS printer server node.
  1. In the Object Properties view, click the value you want to change.
  1. Enter your change.

Deleting Printers

  • The Print Configuration perspective is displayed.
  1. In the Workstation & Printers tree, right-click a printer under the CUPS printer server node and select Delete Object(s).
  1. Click Yes.

Defining Default Printers for All Workstations

  • The Print Configuration perspective is displayed.
  1. To define a default printer for runtime mode, select System > Workstations in the Workstation & Printers tree.
  1. To define a default printer for engineering mode, select System Engineering > Workstations in the Workstation & Printers tree.
  1. Right-click and select Define Default Printer.
  1. Select a printer from the list. The list only displays those printers saved for the selected mode.
  1. Click Finish.
  1. To display the new default printer in the Default Printer view, click  Refresh

Defining Default Printers for a Workstation

  • The Print Configuration perspective is displayed.
  1. Right-click a workstation under Workstation > [Workstation] and select Define Default Printer.
  1. Select a default printer.
  1. Click Finish.
  1. To display the new default printer in the Default Printer view, click  Refresh.

Editing Default Printers

  • The Print Configuration perspective is displayed.
  1. Select a workstation under Workstation > [Workstation].
  1. In the Default Printers view, right-click the default printer you want to edit and select Edit default printer setting.
  1. Select a printer.
  1. Click Finish.

Deleting Default Printers

  • The Print Configuration perspective is displayed.
  1. Select a workstation under Workstation > [Workstation].
  1. Right-click the default printer and select Delete default printer.
  1. Click Yes.
  1. To update the Default Printer view, click  Refresh.
  • If available, the higher level default printer is defined as new printer.

Switching Off Printers

You can switch off printers. If a printer is switched off, it is not available for printouts and not monitored for faults. While being in the fault state, its fault state changes to quiet.

  • A CUPS printer has been created. For more information refer to: Adding Printers.
  • The printer is switched on.
  1. There are several possibilities to switch off printers. Basically, they can be switched off wherever a printer is displayed in the user interface, for example:
  • In the Administration tree of the Administration perspective, right-click a printer under System Engineering > Printers > [CUPS Server] and select Switch off.
  • In the Workstations & Printers tree of the Print Configuration perspective, right-click a printer under System Engineering > Printers > [CUPS Server] and select Switch off.
  • In the System State List view of the Events/Messages perspective, filter for a printer, right-click it and select Switch off.
  • In the System State List view of the Events/Messages perspective, click  Print Filtered List, right-click a printer and select Switch off.
  1. To check the printer’s state, click the System State List view of the Events/Messages perspective and filter for it. A state different from Quiet is displayed.
  • A corresponding entry appears in the Operator Log perspective.

Switching On Printers

You can switch on printers. If a printer is switched on while being in the fault state, its faulty state is displayed after the next monitoring cycle.

  • A CUPS printer has been created. For more information refer to: Adding Printers.
  • The printer is switched off.
