Application-dependent IP configuration is done automatically when a distribution is installed on Connect gateway. If needed, IP addresses can be configured in Network > IP. In the right-hand panel, expand the form by selecting the edit symbol. When set to Auto mode, the Connect gateway expects to receive a local IP address from a DHCP server, typically implemented in the upstream router.

In Manual mode, a static IP address and netmask can be specified. The fields for DNS server and gateway addresses are used only when different from the default gateway.

IPv6 addressing

The Connect gateway supports IPv6 addressing in the Building Automation Network and on the WAN side, apart from the cloud connection which requires IPv4.

IPv6 support in the BAN implies

  • Relaxed need for private IP addresses (the use of private IP addresses is discouraged),
  • Network Address Translation is not supported,
  • Multiple addresses can be assigned per interface.

There are different types of IPv6 addresses:

  • Global - public IPv6 addresses used for internet communication,
  • Link-local - always generated when IPv6 is enabled on an interface and used for communication on the local network (fe80::/10),
  • Unique local - special prefix that should not be found on Internet, used as some sort of private IPv6 addresses (fc00::/7),
  • Loopback - used to test networking stack (::/8).

IPv6 is disabled by default. The buttons to allow or block IPv6 on the device are located in Network > Firewall.

IPv6 is supported on both the LAN and WAN interfaces. However, IPv4 is required for the cloud connection. Both DHCPv6 and SLAAC are supported. To use IPv6, the network has to support IPv6 and the network elements need to be properly hardened with respect to IPv6.

Network diagnostics

A WAN network connection test, measuring latency, download and upload speed is performed by selecting Start in Network > IP > Network speed.

The section Network > IP > Network diagnostics lists the connection status of service endpoint connections. In case of service failure, the error cause is shown to aid in troubleshooting.

NTP settings

Connect gateway uses NTP for system clock synchronization. The NTP settings are automatically set to default addresses. Select the Edit button to add alternative addresses or to delete any of the listed addresses, confirming the changes with the Save button.
