The Connect Gateway is located between the Building Automation Network (BAN) and the internet and operates as an edge device for chosen applications. It can be connected to BAN and internet in two modes.

Separate networks

The BAN is separated from external networks (internet access) by the gateway. In this mode, any of the LAN ports (1A/1B on Connect X200 or X1P1 on Connect X300) is connected to the BAN and the WAN port to the internet.

NOTICE
Unsupported network configuration

In separate networks mode, the WAN and LAN must be connected to different networks. The same subnet range on the WAN and LAN sides is not allowed.

Combined network

The BAN is sharing a physical network with internet connectivity. In this mode, any of the LAN ports (1A/1B on Connect X200 or X1P1 on Connect X300) is connected to the shared network and the WAN port is not used.

NOTICE
SL-2 compliance requirements

For security level 2 compliance, only the separate networks configuration is admissible. To claim SL-2 compliance on Connect X300, the device needs to be at least on OS version 5.0.10.

Changing network mode

The network mode is selected at the first time the device is set up and can later only be changed after performing a configuration or factory reset.

The physical network reconfiguration from combined to separate networks is done by reconnecting the Ethernet cable to the LAN port and connecting the WAN port to the IT network (switch or router), and then changing the network mode in the GUI at start-up.

NOTICE
Upgrading X300 in combined network mode from EdgeOS V4 to EdgeOS V5

In EdgeOS V4, the X300 in combined mode network operation uses the WAN port, whereas in EdgeOS V5, it uses the LAN port. For this reason, re-cabling is necessary as part of the upgrade procedure.

Re-cabling of X300 in combined network mode operation

  • X300 operates in combined network mode (WAN mode) and has been upgraded from EdgeOS V4 to EdgeOS V5
  1. On the device UI, Maintenance, select Reset Combined Port Mode.
  1. The pop-up window Swap Ethernet port connection is displayed.
  1. Select Continue to confirm re-cabling and reboot the device.
  1. Change the Ethernet cable connected to the WAN port to the LAN port as prompted - the cable should be changed while the device is rebooting.
  • The X300 is operating in combined network mode under EdgeOS V5.

Selecting Reset configuration or Reset to factory settings in this situation will trigger two pop-ups, first the Swap Ethernet port connection prompt and then the confirmation prompt of the intended action.
