Gather the following information before planning a Thread network.

Relevant information includes (by floor):

  • Floor plan
  • Walls
  • Standing water
  • Furniture
  • People density over time
  • Shelves, desks, vending machines
  • Microwaves
  • Other wireless systems, such as WLAN, Zigbee, mobile networks
  • Other obstacles or possible sources of interference for wireless communication

Visit the building to identify any differences between the floor plan and actual conditions.

Perform an on-site scan to find any source of interference and existing WLAN networks using the 2.4 GHz band of a Thread wireless system.
