Concrete structures, metal, and water significantly impact signal strength.

Other materials such as wood, plywood, and glass have only a negligible impact on signal strength and are not considered as obstacles for the planning process.

Damping effect of different materials

Consider the following to minimize damping:

  • Keep wireless communication to a single floor as much as possible and avoid staircases, or thick walls in concrete buildings.
  • Place Thread devices in a clear line of sight between devices.
