In the "Device Template" area of the primary side bar, the tool provides the following types of device templates for you to choose from:
- Predefined templates. Depending on the I/O extension module connected to the bus, the tool predefines different device templates to deploy field application efficiently. If the I/O extension module is EM1.8U, EM1.8D or EM1.8R, the predefined application template is in the "EM1 Template" list. Check "Device template" to view the specific description of each template.
- User-defined templates. This type of template is stored in the "Custom Template" list after you create a new template, save an existing device as a device template, or import a device template. See below for details.
Create a device template
- Expand the "Device Template" area of the primary side bar, and then click .
- Name the new template in the pop-up window.
- The new template appears in the "Custom Template" list of "Device Template" area.
- Complete the configuration and programming of the device template.
Save an existing device as a device template
- After the configuration and programming is complete, right-click the device to be saved as device template in the "Projects" area of the primary side bar, then select "Save as Device Template" to save the current programming page as a template-like program file.
- Name the template in the pop-up window.
- The device saved as template appears in the "Custom Template" list of "Device Template" area.
Import a device template
- Expand the "Device Template" area of the primary side bar, and then click .
- Locate and double-click the device template to be imported.
- Name the template in the pop-up window.
- The imported device template will appear in the "Custom Template" list of "Device Template" area. You can make necessary configuration and programming adjustments at a later stage. Note that the import fails if the file selected in Step 2 is not a device template. If the imported item is not a device template, it will not be listed in the "Device Template" section.
Export a device template
- In the "Device Template" area of the primary side bar, locate the device template to be exported.
- Click and specify the export location.
- Rename the template in the dialog box.
- The exported device template appears in your specified location. You can share it with others.
You can delete or rename a device template by clicking and respectively.
