This chapter describes how to configure partitions and user groups for small, large, and very large enterprise environments.

Single campus end customer

As a single campus, the Building X enterprise understands one location of one to n buildings such as hospitals, schools, shopping malls, or hotels.

Partition management: For each campus one partition is recommended. With one campus, the default partition can be used, and no new partition needs to be created. Campuses and buildings must still be created.

User group management: For a company with a single campus, it is recommended to add a second Administrator to the default user group Company Administrator. Create one user group (Subscription Experts) for each activated subscription with access to the default partition. Make all users members of this user groups.

Multi-site end user

As a multi-site, the Building X enterprise understands enterprises owning or renting multiple locations such as real estate companies, franchise companies, or industrial companies.

Partition management: One partition for every campus or standalone building in a different location is recommended.

User group management: For multiple sites it is recommended to add a second administrator to the default user group Company Administrator. Create one user group (Subscription Experts) for each activated subscription, and one user group for each role type. The user groups for the activated subscriptions are necessary for the user to see the apps in Building X.

Example

Create the following partitions with sites:

  • Partition A contains Campus A with Buildings A1, A2, and An.
  • Partition B contains one Building B1.

Create the following user groups with roles:

Service provider

Service providers are companies providing services to multiple customers in different locations. Two options can be considered for their management:

Subscriptions per customer

Partition management: The service provider has its own Building X Service Provider Account and necessary subscriptions. The subscriptions can be used for multiple customers. The service provider onboards each customer within the Building X Service Provider Account. One partition is recommended for each customer. The service provider can share the partitions to the Building X Company Account if the customer has an own Building X Company Account.

User group management: In this option only the Building X Service Provider Account needs user groups and roles, which have different access permissions. The user groups are automatically inherited by the partitions of the companies. To configure the user groups, follow the same procedure used for a multi-site end user.

Example

  • Company A has one Partition A containing Campus A with Buildings A1 and A2.
  • Company B has one Partition B containing Campus B1 and B2, each with one Building B1 and Building B2 within it.
  • Company A and B are onboarded to the Building X Service Provider Account

Shared subscriptions

Partition management: Every individual company shares its dedicated partition with the service provider. Each customer has a Building X Company Account and subscriptions for the required business apps. One partition per business app subscription for each company is recommended.

User group management: For this option, it is recommended to have an individual user group management for the service provider and each company. The user groups for the service provider account should be configured as described for the multi-site end user. The user groups for the companies should be configured as described for the single site end customer.

  • Company A has a Building X Company A account.
  • Company A has one partition A containing Campus A with Building A1, Building A2, and Building An.
  • Company A has individual user groups.
  • Company B has a Building X Company B Account.
  • Company B has one Partition B containing one Building B1.
  • Company B has individual user groups.
  • Company A and B share their partitions with the Building X Service Provider Account.
  • The service provider has individual user groups with access to both partitions.
