Some data sources, for example utility bills or meter readings, cannot yet be directly connected to Building X or are only available in a file-based format. Siemens developed File Connector to enable customers to supply a wide array of data points from offline, or otherwise indirectly connected data sources to Building X. File Connector retrieves the structured data files, parses them and sends the data to Building X for use by the cloud applications. Currently, File Connector is the only method for importing file-based data sources to Building X.

To use data points from the File Connector in Energy Manager the below workflow must be followed:

  • A device is connected.
  • Cloud Connector, Connect Hub, and File Connector are installed.
  • You are logged in to the Connect Hub.
  • You accessed the File Connector through the Remote Access.
  • A building is created.
  1. Create data points using the File Connector.
  • Configure a line, MSCONS or AWK parser.
  • Create a CSV file in the structure of the configured parser. For details, see Parsers.
  • Upload the CSV file in the Directory and Validate it.
  1. Create a meter equipment in Data Setup. For details, see Creating a meter equipment.

Values ingested before the Valid from date will not be shown in Energy Manager.

  1. Assign the data points to the meter equipment. For details, see Assigning a device and data points to an equipment.
Data points from File Connector do not require point activation from Data Setup.
  1. Provide new values to the data points and upload them.

Energy Manager only shows data from a data point after the connection to a meter equipment. Historical data existing on that data point will not be seen by Energy Manager.
