In buildings with water-based heating and cooling systems (distributed to radiators, chilled ceilings, or fan coils, etc.), and with more than one vertical distribution circuit, the heating/cooling distribution on these circuits can be adjusted based on demand.

Differentiated demand may arise in parts of a building with separate distribution circuits A and B, for example, the Northern and Southern sides of building due to different exposure to solar radiation. It is assumed that each vertical distribution circuit has separate distribution pumps pushing hot or cold water through the pipework.

Primary distribution On/Off

The functions Determine distribution heating/cooling demand controls Modbus heating or cooling distribution relays that switches distribution pumps on or off based on configurable limits on demand.

  1. Add and commission the Modbus devices Generic heating distribution relay and/or Generic cooling distribution relay.
  1. Adjust the Modbus settings if necessary.
  1. Add and activate the function Determine distribution heating demand or Determine distribution cooling demand for each distribution circuit.
  1. In Planning > Functions, assign room locations and output device by selecting rooms from which to collect heating/cooling demand and output device for heating/cooling distribution.
  1. In Commissioning > Functions, open Edit to set the number of controlled devices and on/off limits for the demand (percent of temperature setpoint deviation).
  • Distribution heating/cooling demand is deployed.

Primary distribution 0-10V

The functions Determine distribution heating/cooling demand controls Modbus heating or cooling IO extension modules (EM1.8U) providing 0-10V output to distribution pumps based on configurable heating/cooling demand functions.

  1. Add and commission the Modbus devices EM1.8U heating distribution 0 to 10V output and/or EM1.8U cooling distribution 0 to 10V output.
  1. Adjust the Modbus and datapoints settings, see Generic heating or cooling distribution 0-10V.
  1. Add and activate the function Determine distribution heating demand proportional or Determine distribution cooling demand proportional for each distribution circuit.
  1. In Planning > Functions, assign room locations and output device (see Primary distribution On/Off, point 4).
  1. In Commissioning > Functions, open Edit to specify the heating/cooling demand calculation function (percent of temperature setpoint deviation).
