This section provides a quick reference guide to the main elements of the Flex Client application user interface. For procedures to get started with Flex Client, see Basic Procedures.

Flex Client Application Screen

The Flex Client application screen displays many functional components in multiple panes, divided by splitters.

If you resize the browser window below 640 pixels, the screen is grayed out, the Flex Client application cannot be used, and a message asks to increase the window width.

1

Horizontal navigation bar

The point of entry to a set of Flex Client functions.

2

Summary bar

Overview of the events in the system.

3

Work area

Large area below the Summary bar. The applications displayed here will vary depending on the system function that is being used. See System Monitoring and Event Handling.

You can interact with the Flex Client screen to perform actions and change what currently displays in a variety of ways. These include:

  • Interacting with the panes and accessing a series of system functionalities (layout, account, and so on). For instructions, see Basic Procedures.
  • Navigating the system:
    • Select an object in System Browser to propagate its information to the pane on the right (see Primary Selection Workflow). Then select an object in the pane on the right to propagate its properties and commands to the pane at the bottom (see Secondary Selection Workflow).
    • Select next to an object (or group of objects) in System Browser and choose whether to propagate (send) its information to the pane on the right (see Primary Selection Workflow) or to the Comparison pane (see Send to Secondary Workflow).
    • Drag objects from System Browser to perform certain tasks.

You can also navigate back and forth through the web browser navigation history, and save bookmarks to individual pages of the Flex Client application. Note that bookmarks created with a previous version of the Flex Client application will not work because of different URL structure.

Horizontal Navigation Bar

A horizontal navigation bar is located along the top of the system screen. It has a set of system functions of the Flex Client application.

1

Company logo

Select this logo to refresh the Flex Client page and display your favorite homepage. For more details, see Set Your Flex Client Favorite Homepage.

4

Messages

Notifies the operator about Flex Client notifications from the different system applications (for example, new active events, suppressed objects, and so on) that have occurred since the last time the operator checked on the management station. This counter is reset every time the Flex Client application is started.

To view messages, see Viewing Flex Client Notifications.

Summary Bar

The Summary bar is located below the horizontal navigation bar, and has a series of event lamps, which provide an overview of the events in the system, grouped by category.

1

Event lamps

Summarizes the events in the system, grouped by categories (see Event Lamps).
You can select an event lamp, to open Event List filtered by that category. For instructions see, Filter by Category with Event Lamps.

2

Buzzer

The buzzer is the sound emitted by a client station to notify the operator of events in the Flex Client application.
If a site has multiple client stations, each one will emit its own sound.

A button on the Summary bar indicates the status of the buzzer:

When a new event occurs, the client station emits an audio alert that continues for as long as that event remains unprocessed (that is, unacknowledged by the operator).
If there are multiple incoming events, the buzzer continues to sound for as long as any of them remain unprocessed.
The buzzer ceases when the incoming events have been acknowledged.
The specific buzzer sound can vary depending on the type of event and is configuration-dependent.
In case of multiple events, the buzzer sound will be the one for the most important (severe) event, irrespective of any filters or sorting you may have applied to Event List.

System Monitoring

When you select System in the horizontal navigation bar, the system monitoring context displays.

1

Selection pane (vertically along the left). It contains System Browser (a browser for navigating and selecting system objects).
NOTE: Depending on how the Selection pane width is reduced, the System Browser displays its objects in a hierarchical structure where you can expand a parent node to display its child nodes, or the tree will display as a flat list.

2

Depending on the type of layout, one of the following:

  • Primary pane (to the right of the Selection pane). Depending on the project configuration, other applications become available to the left of System Browser for the selected system object. For example, Textual Viewer (a viewer of details of objects), and Graphics (a viewer for displaying site floor plans).
  • Primary pane and Comparison pane (opens alongside the Primary pane)
NOTE: When the browser window size is reduced or the screen resolution is less than 1360 pixels, it is not possible to display the Comparison pane.

3

Underneath the Primary pane, depending on the type of layout, one of the following:

  • Contextual pane that contains applications such as Properties (a viewer for inspecting and commanding the properties of objects) and Related Items (list of items related to the selected object).
  • Contextual pane (which contains Properties) and Related pane (alongside the Contextual pane, which contains Related Items).
