The remote access tunnel is normally set up by the application. In such cases, a connection to the device is established from the Devices application in Remote access with the Open button.
Creating a tunnel
In case no tunnel has been created automatically or a new tunnel is needed, its endpoint can be configured manually in Network > Tunnel by specifying name, IP address, and port of the tunnel. This may require opening a port in the firewall settings first. Note that the port must be on the allow-list and not used by any other application. The allow-list is determined by the set of installed applications.
Go to the Devices app, Remote access to see the created tunnel. The URL is automatically generated by the application.
Example
- Logged in as administrator to the Connect Gateway having an assigned Modbus application (for example, Desigo Optic, minimum version 2.8.5).
- Go to Network > Firewall, open a TCP port for the remote tunnel (say, port 8090) and Save.
- Go to Network > Tunnel, select Add and enter name, description, and URL consisting of IP address and port (say, https://127.0.0.1:8090).
- Open the application over the created tunnel in the Devices application, Remote access.
- The login prompt of the app is shown (like the example below).
