The Maintenance section contains functions to download log files, back up and restore device settings, restart, or change device operation mode. Most operations require administrator access.
Log files
The Connect gateway keeps several log files for different purposes. The log files can be retrieved and downloaded in encrypted format from the device GUI and the cloud Devices app.
- Device log files (unencrypted zipped JSON format) in the cloud Devices app: Devices > Information > Download logs
- Diagnostic data files (encrypted format) in device GUI: Maintenance > Download diagnostic data
- Device settings files (encrypted format) in device GUI: Maintenance > Back up device settings
- Audit log files (unencrypted gzipped JSON format) in device GUI: Security > Overview > Audit log/Download
The audit log files contain activities and events as shown below.
The diagnostic data files are not intended for operational use and are therefore protected by encryption. These files are used by Siemens support.
Back up and restore
Two buttons are designated for back up and restore of device settings. A downloaded, already encrypted and password protected settings file can then be stored in a safe location. When selecting Back up device settings, a password to protect the file is requested. This password must conform with the set password policy on the device.
The password has to conform to the general password guidelines and the minimum password length set in the device. The same password will be used to restore the settings.
The button Restore device settings displays a dialog for uploading of an encrypted settings file and requesting the same password assigned to it at download. Select Choose File, password, and Restore.
Additional buttons are available to perform device operations:
- Restart device - performs a device reboot and restarts running applications.
- Reset to factory settings - initiates a factory reset, (see also Factory reset.
- Reset configuration - similar to factory reset but maintains the registration status of the device in the cloud: after configuration reset, the device can still connect to the cloud.
