There are several ways to connect to the Connect Gateway. Remote access is possible for a device which has first been onboarded as described in the Quick Install Guides for CXG3.X200, CXG3.X300, and CXG3.X500, respectively. The access methods are:
- Direct connection to the device
- Local network with device discovery (see also Services)
- Remote access:
- Remote access tunnel (see also Tunnel)
- SSH (restrictions apply)
For remote access through remote tunnel or SSH, the corresponding features need to be configured on the gateway. There is no direct access to the EdgeOS or file system in normal mode (production systems) except SSH login using Siemens service credentials and SSH key - provided that SSH has been enabled on the device.
It is recommended to use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
The encrypted HTTP traffic on the local connection may cause the browser to display a security warning. In that case, acknowledge the warning (accepting the risk) and continue by adding a security exception.
Connect Gateway is by default hardened as described in Connect Gateway Cybersecurity Guidelines, https://siemens.com/bt/download → ID: A6V12604901 (requires login). The device security overview is described in Overview.
