The Exterior Layer contains drawing objects that define the outline for the processing of Unit Layer geometries.

For more information about the Exterior layer, see https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-maps/drawing-requirements#exterior-layer.

A layer in the DWG file with an object that completely overlaps all the necessary Unit Layer geometries and adheres to the above requirements should be used as the Exterior Layer for DWG processing. If such layer does not exist, a new layer must be created in the DWG file and an object must be drawn such that above requirements are fulfilled. For the DWG processing, presence of at least one Exterior Layer is compulsory.

During DWG processing the following is checked:

  • If the Exterior Layer name is not provided, "OUTLINE" is considered as the default layer name.
  • If the DWG file does not contain the "OUTLINE" layer, the processing fails and an error message is returned.
