This chapter describes the workflow for replacing a device. This functionality covers two main use cases:

  • Replacement of a defective device with a new one.
  • Replacement of a device with a device of another type (example replacement of X200 with X300).

(Optional) The old device can be deleted afterwards or be kept for other purposes.

After the replacement of a device, the Edge Apps must be set up again. Edge Apps relying on Data Setup also require set up in the Data Setup app.

Other Edge Apps that are not generating data ingest to Building X platform might require only minor engineering.

  1. Go to Sites.
  1. Select the site with the device to be replaced.
  1. Select the device.
  1. Select Add.
  1. Enter the activation key of the new device and select Validate.
  1. Select the Replace the old device with this one checkbox.
  1. Select the old device from the dropdown list.
  1. (Optional) Confirm the Custom name of your device.
  1. (Optional) Confirm the Custom description of your device.
  1. (Optional) Confirm the External ID of your device.
  1. Select Add.
  1. Continue with engineering the required Edge Apps.

Replacing an Edge gateway with devices behind gateway

The clean-up of devices behind gateway must be requested by the support team via back office tool.

  1. Save the Edge gateway serial number locally.
  1. Follow the instructions for replacing the Edge gateway as described above.
  1. Contact the support team for deleting the original Edge gateway with the serial number of the original Edge gateway.
  1. Once the original Edge gateway is deleted, perform a network scan of data points on the new Edge gateway.

To scan the network for data points, go to the Remote access tab and access the Connect Hub user interface or another controller or Edge app installed on your Edge gateway.
