You can print several information displayed in the software, for example graphics or the Message List view.

You can select the following printer types:

  • Default printer: The default printer assigned to the system is used.
  • PDF printer: The printout is saved as printable PDF in the following directory: /var/spool/CUPS-PDF/anonymous

PDF Printout Parameters

The PDF file is saved in the following format:
[timestamp]-[type]-[workstation]-[additionalinformation].pdf

Printing Messages

You can print messages. The printout contains the following information:

  • All information from the Rate Message window
  • All submessages belonging to the message
  • The note information
  • All message-related Siveillance Control graphic sections
  • Optionally configured additional information with a manual event
  • The Events/Messages perspective is displayed.
  • A printer is operational. The system does not check whether the printer has low toner, no paper or is switched off.
  1. You have the following options to print a message:
  • In the Message List view, right-click a message and select Print.
  • In the Rate Message window, right-click a message and select Print.
  • In the Messages tab of a displayed event, right-click a message and select Print.
  • In the Rate Message window, click the following symbol:
  1. Select a printer.
  1. Decide on the number of copies for the printout.
  1. In the Printout Type drop-down list, select Alarm and click Print.

Printing Access Route Plans

You can print access route plans for messages from a detector belonging to a detector group. In general, the printout contains the following information:

  • The first page displays the access route from the central fire alarm system to the respective building. If no description of the route is needed, the content of the second page will be displayed.
  • The second page displays the access route within the building to the detector group.
  • The Events/Messages perspective is displayed.
  • A message of a detector that belongs to a detector group is displayed.
  • A printer is operational. The system does not check whether the printer has low toner, no paper or is switched off.
  1. You have the following options to print an access route plan:
  • In the Message List view, right-click a message and select Print.
  • In the Rate Message window, right-click a message and select Print.
  • In the Messages tab of a displayed event, right-click a message and select Print.
  • In the Rate Message window, click the following symbol:
  1. Select a printer.
  1. Decide on the number of copies for the printout.
  1. In the Printout Type drop-down list, select Access route plan and click Print.

Printing Events

The event printout contains the following information:

● All information from the Rate Message window

● The operation procedure step list for the event with the status of the individual operation procedure steps at the time of printing

● The event log

● The main messages assigned to the event with message text, alarm location, triggering object and date of creation

● The graphic sequence of the leading message. Optionally a composition of graphic sequences of all messages is printed, if the corresponding preference is set.

● Optionally configured additional information with a manual event such as name, address, phone, email

Preferences for the event printout under Window > Preferences > Siveillance Control > Events:

The additional information configured for a manual event is only printed if the administrator has marked the Show Leading Message Details check box .

A composition of graphic sequences of all messages is printed if the administrator unmarked the Only Graphic Sequence of Leading Message check box.

  • A printer is operational. The system does not check whether the printer has low toner, no paper or is switched off.
  1. You have the following options to print an event:
  • In the Event List view, right-click an event and select Print Event.
  • In the Rate Message window, right-click an event and select Print Event.
  • In the Rate Message window, click the following symbol:
  1. Select a printer.
  1. Decide on the number of copies for the printout and click Print.

Printing Graphics

You can print graphics.

  • A graphic perspective is displayed.
  • A graphic is displayed.
  • A printer is operational. The system does not check whether the printer has low toner, no paper or is switched off.
  1. Zoom the section you want to print.
  1. Click the following symbol:
  1. To adjust the orientation and margins, click the following symbol:
  1. Click OK.
  1. Click Print.
  • A standard print dialog is displayed.
  1. Select a printer.
  1. If necessary, adapt the print parameters.
  1. Click Print.

Printing Operator Logs

You can print the operator log using a CUPS printer configured.

  • The Operator Log perspective is displayed.
  • Entries are displayed in the Operator Log perspective.
  1. If necessary, click Timestamp to sort entries in the operator log. By default, the most recent entries are displayed first.
  1. Filter the operator log before printing to limit the size of the printout. For more information refer to: Searching and Filtering by Date and Time.
  1. Click Print Filtered List in the upper-right corner of the Operator Log perspective.
  1. To print the operator log, you have the following options:
  • Printer: Select a CUPS printer. To save the printout as a PDF document, use a CUPS-PDF printer.
  • Copies: Decide on the number of copies for the printout and click Print.
  1. Display print jobs and check their status. For more information refer to: Displaying and Checking the Status of Print Jobs.
  • Once the printout is finished, it is available as a PDF document or is printed on paper. The columns and content, the current filter and sorting that are printed are exactly those that are displayed in the user interface.

Displaying and Checking the Status of Print Jobs

In the Print Jobs dialog window and view, all print jobs are always displayed, regardless of the printer on which the context menu was triggered.

  1. To display print jobs, you have the following options:
  • In the menu bar, select Tools > Show Print Jobs. For more information on the menu bar, refer to: Menu Bar.
  • Either in the Location Tree or System Tree of the +3 or +5 perspectives, right-click a printer and select Show Print Jobs. Alternatively, double-click a printer.
  • An overview of all print jobs on the client is displayed, including the name of the printer that performed the print job and the name, status, and timestamp of the last modification of the print job.
  1. Check the status of the pint job. The following statuses are possible:
  • Pending: The status of a print job once it enters the print queue.
  • Rendering: The status of a print job once the rendering of the actual printout content has begun.
  • Printing: The status of a print job once the content of the printout is sent to and processed by the actual printer.
  • Finished: The status of a print job once it has been successfully completed. The content of the printout is available by the corresponding printer.
  • Cancel requested: The status of a print job once a user requests it to be canceled.
  • Cancelled: The status of a print job once a user cancels it. The print job changes its status at the next possible time.

Cancelling Print Jobs

You can cancel print jobs while they are being processed. Keep in mind that you can only cancel the print jobs with the Pending, Rendering and Printing statuses.

  • A print job is currently being processed.
  1. To cancel print jobs, you have the following options:
  • In the menu bar, select Tools > Show Print Jobs. For more information on the menu bar, refer to: Menu Bar.
  • Either in the Location Tree or System Tree of the +3 or +5 perspectives, right-click a printer and select Show Print Jobs. Alternatively, double-click a printer.
  • An overview of all print jobs on the client is displayed, including the name of the printer that performed the print job and the name, status, and timestamp of the last modification of the print job.
  1. Right-click one or more print jobs you want to cancel and select Cancel.
  • The print job's status switches to Cancel requested. After that, it becomes Cancelled.

Cleaning Up Print Jobs

You can clean up the print job details to make the overview more concise and as short as possible. Keep in mind that you can only clean up the print jobs with the Finished, Cancelled and Failed statuses. Print jobs from the previous day will be deleted. In this way, at least all jobs from yesterday to today are available in the overview. Also, after each server startup, all print jobs are cleaned up regardless of their status or age, and the print jobs overview is always empty.

To manually clean up print jobs, proceed as follows:

  1. In the Administration perspective, click System > Printers in the Administration tree. Right-click a printer and select Clean Up Print Jobs.
  1. Confirm the cleanup of print jobs.

Printer Error Message

An error message is reported, when a printer is not operational. When the printer is operational again, the error message is reset to quiet. The Message Details in the Rate Message window provide details of the error message. The following error message details are possible:

  • Printer is out of paper
  • Printer has a paper jam
  • Printer is powered down or removed
  • Printer is low on toner
  • Printer is out of toner
  • Printer is unable to accept more jobs, spool area full
  • One or more printer covers are open
  • CUPS server is disconnected

Switching Off Printers

You can switch off printers. If a printer is switched off, it is not available for printouts and not monitored for faults. While being in the fault state, its fault state changes to quiet.

  • The printer is switched on.
  1. There are several possibilities to switch off printers. Basically, they can be switched off wherever a printer is displayed in the user interface, for example:
  • In the Administration tree of the Administration perspective, right-click a printer under System > Printers > [CUPS Server] and select Switch off.
  • In the System State List view, filter for a printer, right-click it and select Switch off.
  • In the System State List view, click  Print Filtered List, right-click a printer and select Switch off.
  1. To check the printer’s state, click the System State List view and filter for it. A state different from Quiet is displayed.
  • A corresponding entry appears in the Operator Log perspective.

Switching On Printers

You can switch on printers. If a printer is switched on while being in the fault state, its faulty state is displayed after the next monitoring cycle.

  • The printer is switched off.
  1. There are several possibilities to switch on printers. Basically, they can be switched on wherever a printer is displayed in the user interface, for example:
  • In the Administration tree of the Administration perspective, right-click a printer under System > Printers > [CUPS Server] and select Switch on.
  • In the System State List view, filter for a printer, right-click it and select Switch on.
  • In the System State List view, click  Print Filtered List, right-click a printer and select Switch on.
  1. To check the printer’s state, click the System State List view and filter for it.
  • A corresponding entry appears in the Operator Log perspective.
