Activation
Processs used to generate license rights. In FLEXnet Operations, this is a process in trusted storage and in license files.
Activation ID
The ID allocated to the entitlement line-item. The activation ID consists of a sequence of numerics and/or alphabetics. The activation ID is used to activate a license on a target device.
Bind
Establishing a connection of a representation of a software instance in the installed base to an actual software instance located on a host.
Certificate
File based license storage.
CSID
[Customer Site Identifier]. Entitlement Line Item. Single line record associated to an entitlement.
Desigo CC
[Desigo Control Center]. Desigo CC is the product name of the global management station.
Dongle
A license storage device which allows moving license rights between hosts
Entitlement
A representation of the license model and product that a customer has bought. An entitlement is a definition only. The customer will need to fulfill the entitlement so that the license rights can be populated to license files or trusted storage. An entitlement consists of entitlement line items. ---> Entitlement line item.
Entitlement ID
The Entitlement ID is a unique identification for a license entitlement. One entitlement is created per license order and it contains one or several activation IDs for the ordered software licenses. The entitlement ID consists of a sequence of digits and/or alphabetic characters.
Entitlement line item
A line-item contained within an entitlement. A line-item is a construct of product, license model and quantity.
Feature
Smallest possible entity which can be protected and licensed A feature describes the implementation, improvement, or addition of a product or system property that is either marketable or increases the profitability of the product or system. Licensed products often enable more than one feature. The feature is often the name of a function contained within a license key.
FNP
[FlexNet Publisher]. License enforcement technology product. The software has to be installed on the client machine. Manufactured by Flexera Software LLC.
License
Permission to do things, which would be forbidden without having a corresponding permission. The verb license or grant license means to give permission. A licensor may grant license under “intellectual property” to do something (such as copy software or use a patented invention) without fear of a claim of intellectual property infringement brought by the licensor. Wiktionary defines the term license as follows: A legal document giving official permission to do something, a permit. The legal terms under which a person is allowed to use a product, especially software. Even if you bought this product, it does NOT belong to you. License Management System (LMS)
The LMS term used in this document does not describe a solution but is a generic term used for whatever is needed to create, management, delivery, store data’s… licenses for our system. The major tasks of a License Management System are license generation, license management, and license reporting and product definition. In particular this covers the following areas: Generate License Files. Summarize multiple license files to one license file. Generate license pools for 3rd party supplier (e.g. VAP, Offline Case...). Distribution/transfer of license files per e.g. e-mail or download. Display the status of a license (ordered, generated, transferred, …). Web-Interface for generation and download a licenses. Overview of all products, versions, and options; History of all license generations. Customer reports. Handling of license updates; Import from ERP systems (e.g. SAP). User administration (access rights, …). The license generator is usually located at a central place (e.g. Siemens HQ). In addition it is thinkable that any “license generator satellites” are located on local engineering notebooks. This will support the offline case, but requires a time wise synchronization to the central license generator.
License Rights
Information in trusted storage or license files that defines the license model and controls user access to a specific FLEX enabled application.
License Server
Server for management of license files and communication with the respective applications. The licenser server is usually installed together with an API on the customer project.
LMS
[License Management System]. System software product for licensing, activation, delivery and lifecycle management of customer use rights. ---> FNO
LMU
[License Management Utility]. Software product.
Product
Within the LMS «product» is used to refer to anything that can be sold by a publisher and can be licensed.
Return
Removal of license rights. A license return involves removing the license rights from a «license store» and transferring the license rights back to ---> FNO.
SUR
[Software Upgrade Renewal]. A successful SUR order extends the current “Subscription Expiration Date” by one year. This may not be sufficient to get an active subscription of the software upgrade program.
SUS
[Software Upgrade Subscription]. A successful SUS order starts an active subscription of the software upgrade program by setting the “Subscription Expiration Date” of the site to one year after the order. It entitles to get the latest available software version.
Target Computer
The customer's computer. Opposite: Engineering Computer. The term is especially used in license offline actions, where files are to be manually exchanged between the target computer and the engineering computer.
