The following guidelines will help you design a well-organized program that is easy to modify and maintain:

  • Use point names that describe the function of the point.
  • Organize the flow of the program logic from top to bottom so that errors are easier to trace.
  • Use comment lines to document the functions performed by specific groups of statements.
  • Use a subroutine (also called a module) for a group of statements that perform a specific task more than once during each pass of the program.
  • Make sure routing commands (GOTO) are used correctly. See Subroutine Commands for more information.
  • With APOGEE firmware, it is best to create a separate program in the same automation station rather than duplicate the control strategy within a single program.
