This topic outlines how to determine whether an N4 station local device is needed, based on the job configuration.

When is a Station Local Device Needed?

A local device is typically needed when the N4 station is performing the supervisory controller role that would normally be performed by one or more TCs (TALON controllers/Siemens field panels). In this case, a LocalDeviceTc object should be added to the station. For instructions, see the section Configuring a Station Local Device.

When is a LocalDeviceTc Object not Needed?

A LocalDeviceTc virtual supervisory controller object is not needed if TALON TC controllers have been used to supervise all other BACnet devices, as shown in the following figure. In other words, every ‘child’ BACnet device appears in the database of a TC controller.
