Before configuring BACnet networks, you must identify the network layout. This section includes example layouts that you can use to identify station communication links that must be added and/or configured.

NOTE:
Since N4 / TNM Niagara stations may connect to devices using both BACnet/IP and BACnet MS/TP ports, in some cases, more than one example in this section may apply.

The devices outlined in this section are examples only. They are provided to illustrate the types of devices that could be included on various types of networks.

Niagara Supervisor

A Niagara Supervisor typically has a single BACnet/IP link, as shown in the following figure.

Computer-hosted Station.

For this type of network layout, follow the instructions in the section Configuring a Niagara Supervisor BACnet/IP Links.

N4 / TNM with BACnet/IP Link(s)

A Niagara station typically has a single BACnet/IP link, but may be configured with two, as shown in the following figure.

For this type of network layout, follow the instructions in the section Configuring N4 JACE station BACnet/IP Links.

N4 / TNM with BACnet MS/TP Link(s)

A Niagara station without expansion modules may be configured with one or two MS/TP links, as shown in the following figure. Expansion modules may be added to provide additional MS/TP ports. Additional ports are configured using the same instructions as on-board ports.

NOTE: For this configuration, only the PTEC editors are available.
